10 Secrets for Saving Money Each Time You Shop

June 7th, 2008 by glorianemcmurray

By Raynay Valles Do you save money when you shop? If you do, you know the money-stretching secrets of savvy shoppers. If you don’t usually get a deal, discover the insider tips that can help you save more money. 1. Eat with the seasons. We humans used to eat with the seasons out of necessity. Whatever food was in abundance, we ate. It pays to eat with the sales now because when produce is “in season”, it usually is on sale. This means buying blueberries in July and apples and cranberries in autumn. The key is to plan meals with seasonal recipes. 2. Shop with the sales. Some items go on sale the same time each year. Car dealers are motivated to sell this years models in the last months of the year. The week after Christmas is the time to buy Christmas decorations. Winter clothes, towels and linens go on sale in January. School supplies are on sale in the weeks before school starts. Shop during those times to find deals. 3. Use coupons and make it fun. If your coupons come in the Sunday paper, try to get ten times the value of the paper in coupons. For example, if your Sunday paper costs $1.00, try to get $10.00 in savings each week. Over a year, you’ll save more than $500 dollars. Another great source of coupons is the Entertainment Coupon Book. This coupon book is available in most major cities and can save you money at local businesses, such as restaurants and dry cleaners. You can get this coupon book at www.entertainment.com. 4. Automatically find out about deals. Get a membership at BonusWire.com. Every week BonusWire.com sends you a list of companies who offer freebies, deals and bonuses. Find out more at www.bonuswire.com. Another handy website that will point you to deals is CoolSavings. They will send you coupons for brand name products such as Pampers and coupons to stores such as Petco. Sign up at www.coolsavings.com. 5. Before you buy online, do this. Are you shopping at a well-known website? Serious online savers search for “companyname coupons”. For example, go to Google.com and search “Gap coupons” or “Amazon coupons”. 6. Get a deal after the item has sold out. What happens when you have a store coupon for a GREAT deal but when you get there, the store is out of the item? A little-known secret is you may still get the item for the coupon’s price - simply ask the clerk for a “raincheck”. A raincheck is a little form that extends your coupon for a week. This is only a possibility with store coupons, not manufacturer’s coupons. Also, the original coupon can not state: “While supplies last”. 7. Pay cash whenever you can. Many of us carry credit card debt, which only makes us poorer. The benefits of paying with cash: 1. No interest 2. Some companies offer a discount for cash. For example, a furniture store may offer a 2% discount for cash. When you are buying a big-ticket item, ask if there’s a discount for paying with cash. 8. Combine savings. Did you know sometimes you CAN combine savings? For example you may find products on sale AND use a coupon. Try that the next time you go to the grocery store. Here’s another example, a store runs a special where they will pay the taxes PLUS you could pay cash and get the cash discount. 9. Try this last minute money saver. Before you make any large purchase, ask the salesclerk this question: Can you do better than that? This question can save you hundreds of dollars each year. Just wait until the seller has told you the price and say, “Can you do better than that? Another variation of this question is “Is that your best price?” 10. Get a deal AFTER you buy it. What if an item goes on sale after you bought it? Did you know some stores have a policy that gives you the sale price even if you bought a week earlier? This can apply to big-ticket items such as cameras, TVs and furniture. It’s worth a phone call to the store to find out if they’ll refund the difference. By putting these money-saving tips into action, you can keep more of your hard earned money. You will be saving with the savviest of shoppers. Sacred Love - Where are You Coming From? Are You Turning Up in Love?

June 1st, 2008 by glorianemcmurray

By Christopher Walker Have you recently stopped the rush and considered this question? Are you coming from loneliness, and therefore seeking companionship? Are you coming from anger, and therefore determined to make it in the world? Are you coming from smallness, feeling rejected, and therefore always trying to prove yourself? As a leader, and a lover, it is wise to know where you are coming from in relationships with people. As you know already from your reading, you cant manage relationship if you cant manage yourself. You cant know someone else if you dont know yourself. Otherwise, you will just be projecting onto people, and wont know anything about your reality or your truth or love. It doesnt matter whether it is your relationships, your friendships, your finances or your work; you come from the same place in all of them. That is a vital awareness. Some people come from kindness, some from authority, some from mothering, and some from fathering. Where we come from in our relationships with people seems to fluctuate, but this is not true. Sometimes the person we are interacting with accentuates where we are coming from. Alone, we can be an angel. Even traveling from one place to another, being very busy, we hardly have time to stop and experience the affect of our own thinking and feeling. We love and leave and run to the next because we are hurt or afraid. But when we become attached to someone, it is different For example, when we are in a relationship with someone who we really want to like us, even at work or in a love relationship, we can be very deceptive because we are trying not to offend that person. So we put on an act in order to get this person to do something. We cant trust just being our real self; we bundle up our secrets, hide ourselves, even from our children, so these relationships accentuated our shame - and this is healthy, because how else will we know our shame? Its the same when we do things we are not proud of, and then keep it a secret from our children, because we teach them to have shame too. They know there is something hidden in the closet. So they copy, and learn to be personally corrupt too. When we live two lives, we are coming from shame the whole time, but until we met someone we really want to be with, and became attached to that person in some sort of human dynamic, were not aware of our shame. Nasty people, people who are moody and attacking, are coming from a place of feeling small, irrelevant and so they fear being made redundant. Feeling small is behind so much attention seeking. Feeling small. Kind people, those who might be tough on the surface, but generous at heart, are coming from feeling rejected, they want acceptance. This is a wonderful twist of fate - a disaster in one experience can produce a giving individual in the world. Once you know where you are coming from, then you can simply know where others are coming from. And when you know where a person is coming from, their reactions to you, and the stresses of their life, can be totally understood. Remember, peoples behavior is totally predictable, and when you can understand the way people act and react, it is easier to work with them, and certainly easier to live with them. There is order in the chaos. The universe is predictable, nature is predictable, your life is predictable and your relationships are predictable. It is a very beautiful awareness to see how everything in the universe operates according to very simple laws. Our ego tries to defy those laws, this is called emotion, but we cant defy a universal law. Universal law even affects the cells in our body, and the color of our hair, and the dynamics in our relationships. It is a chemical thing, a construction of energies. So, all the suffering we experience comes from the ego, defying nature. This is called pain. To understand something is to see beauty in it. The materialist will look at the world and see acceptable and unacceptable. They will divide life into these two groups, attracted to one, and avoiding (or trying to change) the other. That is the materialist life, more acceptable, less unacceptable. Materially, this is a powerful way to think because it is the mindset that causes us to accumulates things. So if you want a lot of wealth, you can use this mindset to make it happen. The keys are greed, self- importance, fear of failure, ambition and drive. Sadly there is one thing lacking in that materialist life, and that is true happiness. Happiness comes from the spiritual perspective, which is the opposite of the material perspective. So now we have the real dilemma. To own a house, educate ourselves, educate our children, hold down a job, and lead a company, we need our ego. But the soul of humanity is not made happy by those achievements. Not deeply happy, because they are dual. For every achievement there is a downside. For every dollar of wealth there is a worry. For every new piece of knowledge, there is the conflict of the old knowledge. So the material life is filled with material achievements in which a person thinks, disillusioned, that once they get something, then they will be happy. But every something they get has duality, two sides. From a distance, a new relationship looks like paradise. But inside that new relationship there is also hell. Our delusional mind - the ego - thinks once we get something sorted out, we will be ok, but we are not. We are ok and we are not ok. Same as before, just in a new place. I remember climbing my first trek peak in Nepal. At the bottom I was unhappy, then I got to the top, was and I was happy, but now I was cold and tired. And soon the unhappiness that I experienced at the bottom took over again. So, standing there on top of the mountain, I was left with the idea that I had to create a new challenge for myself, so that I could run away from this unhappiness to another peak. In the spiritual perspective there is happiness everywhere. There is order in chaos, so even a bad situation is made to be good. This order turns both the unacceptable and the acceptable into beauty. Then there is simply love, because there is the ability to see both the bad side and the good side of everything. Then that love is not dependent on something happening, or people living up or down to your expectations; no matter what happens, love is there. There is no need to run away from situations, you can simply define them as healthy and unhealthy. Spiritually, love means deep happiness. Happiness comes from peace of mind. Peace of mind comes from an inner smile, a stillness. In turn stillness comes from contentment, and contentment comes when we do not want to change anything. So when all is perfect as it is, then there is contentment, stillness, an inner smile, peace of mind, and all this leads to happiness. Happiness for the materialist is defined as pleasure. Something makes us happy. But happiness to the spiritual person is not pleasure. Happiness is where the spiritual person comes from. They come from happiness, because they see beauty, they feel content, they do not want to change anything and therefore have peace of mind. Love can only flow from a mind that is at peace with itself. This does not mean the mind has stopped thinking; it has simply come to rest. It is working intensely, focused, but is not stressed, worried. So, it is absolutely possible to be both a materialist, and a spiritual person at once. The material perspective is the external, and the spiritual perspective is the internal one. Spiritual means, Where you come from. It does not affect where others come from, only your ability to see order in the chaos, understand other perspectives, and more importantly see where others come from. Spiritual perspective is achievable while leading the largest or smallest team in business, but most importantly, it is where your heart must sit in a sacred loving relationship. The real question in all of this is Where do you come from? If you are always thinking How do I get more money, how do I get more wealth, how can I pay my rent? then you will be in a very material lifestyle. No matter how much yoga or meditation you do, if you are asking how do I get more of anything, you are being material. Like how do I get more love? How do I get more income? How do I get more sex? How do I get more people to my Yoga class? How do I get more happiness for my friends? How do I get more peace on earth? These are the questions of the materialist mind. No matter what your idea about the value of what you are doing wanting more of anything, always leads to a form of unhappiness in you and those people you are trying to help. It means that if you are coming from a position of wanting to change anything at all, you are coming from fear. You fear what is, and want to change it. This means the material mind has taken over; even your spiritual practice has become a material practice. There can be no peace in that heart, because it is wanting, wanting, wanting. Wanting even to breathe better is wanting. And in that wanting there is a corruption to the spiritual side. If you come from the spiritual perspective you come from Loving Kindness. You do not want anything. You are coming from Loving Kindness and trusting that what you do will find its own truth. If you hurt someone, but you are coming from loving kindness, then that hurt is not your doing, it is the way your actions are received that caused hurt, not your intention. This is very important to understand. Sometimes you need to consider healthy and unhealthy people. They might be angry, bitter, and upset and you dont want to feed them energy by reacting to them. So by spiritual perspectives, you treat everyone with the same, loving-kindness. Then, you might draw a line in the sand and say, with loving-kindness, I do not want anything from you. If that person is hurt then it is not your doing, it is their receiving. And nature has a plan for them too. Where are you coming from? You can build a billion dollar empire, a sacred loving relationship and, with a spiritual perspective, also, find happiness. The key is the ability to know yourself, your energy and your ego, and understand the difference between these aspects and true love. In the extreme this is called healing, and in the everyday life, is called a spiritual perspective. Chris Walker is a world leading change agent, an environmentalist and author of more than 20 books. Real Estate Marketing - Use The Internet To Reach New Clients, Search Engine Spiders, And The Press

May 29th, 2008 by glorianemcmurray

By Connie Ragen Green By using the Internet you can reach out to your three audiences. These audiences are: New customers these are the people who do not know you yet. They are your ideal clients and in your market area, but you just havent met them yet. That will all change with marketing through the Internet. The search engine spiders more powerful than termites, search engine spiders work 24 hours a day to find information that is relevant to the searches that are submitted through Google, Yahoo, and many other search engines. The press Publicity of the right kind can make your business boom. Through proper use of the Internet and all of the ways that you will learn to present yourself you will come face to face with media from around the world. The press will find you instead of you trying to convince them to write something about you and your business that will help you to reach more potential clients. By leveraging the power of internet marketing to increase your real estate business you will become a storyteller. Potential clients want to know more about the person who will be listing their home or finding them a new home. During the time you work with clients you spend quite a bit of time with them. They will be revealing many personal facts about their finances, their relationships, and the way they live. They will be much more open to sharing this information with you if they are already familiar with your story. By becoming a storyteller you share your experiences as they relate to the business of real estate. Your new clients will know how you feel about things specific to the neighborhood such as the local schools, the traffic situation, and the commercial center that is being planned down the street. You will be sharing your opinions on these matters in a clear, open way so that your readers will feel like they already know you before you have even met. You will want to think about which words accurately describe who you are and what you do. These are called keywords and are the words that people type into Google or Yahoo when they are searching for information. You will want to make a list of these keywords and add to the list whenever you think of another word or phrase that describes you and your services. Maybe you are also a Notary and provide this service to others in their real estate transactions. If you live in a neighborhood called Wooded Glen you may write down Wooded Glen notary as a keyword phrase that you will want to use. That is just one example of how you should begin to think about your real estate business in terms of keywords. Publicity of the right kind can make your business explode. But just how do you get your name out there and make the press want to tell the world about you and your business? By using the Internet the press will be able to find out what you are doing that could be of interest to their readers and viewers. They will contact you when they find something of interest. All you will need to do is to show them that what you do on a daily basis is newsworthy. That is easier to do than you might think. Body Dysmorphia: Mind Games After Gastric Bypass Surgery

May 26th, 2008 by glorianemcmurray

By Kaye Bailey Maybe youve heard about body dysmorphia its a mental image many victims of anorexia nervosa have that tells them they look fat, even when they are emaciated. Bariatric patients can suffer from body dysmorphia as well. When we were morbidly obese our emotional coping mechanisms kicked in and many of us were able to convince ourselves we really werent that big. It is emotionally kinder to avoid body criticism, the whole issue seems hopeless. In fact, many morbidly obese patients will say they see themselves normal sized. That is until a rude moment reminds them they are not normal sized: a skinny chair, a turnstile, a bathroom stall, a flight of stairs, a photograph. This false perception is a subconscious coping strategy to protect us from the brutal truth, the truth about how big morbidly obese really is. My sister and I were clothes shopping one day with our morbidly obese mother. She tried an outfit and complained to us, but it makes me look fat. And gently we told her, Mom, you are fat. Intellectually my mother knows she is morbidly obese, but the emotional issues run over reason and she doesnt see herself fat. She is in serious denial that is preventing her from getting the help she needs bariatric surgery to save her life. After surgery, there is a tendency for the body dysmorphia to reverse. Before surgery we denied how big we were, after surgery we judge ourselves critically like the anorexic and fail to see an honest reflection. One woman, down from size 24 to size 10 wrote, I feel fat daily. I never felt this at 248 pounds I saw a thinner person in the mirror than I see now. I look at my size 10 jeans and they look like tents. I dont feel as attractive as I did when I was heavy. I dont understand it, she continued, but I think it has to do with learning to accept yourself fat so you didnt see all the fat. Now I just have to learn to accept myself as thinner. Many patients report hyper-judging their figures after weight loss. It seems the thinner you get the more judgmental of your body you become. To this day, the first thing I see in my reflection in my pudgy tummy I think its enormous. I dont see long slender legs or a tiny waist or trim arms. I see a Buddha belly. Ive even apologized for my chubby tummy to others when they compliment my new figure. The apology usually goes, Yes, but I cant get rid of this stomach. I say this while pointing to my “flaw”. That is wrong and brutally unfair to myself. I am working daily to keep this hyper-judgment in check, reminding myself the days of belittlement and self-loathing are over. Now is the time when I love myself. Patients report universal success when they do one thing in the face of body dysmorphia: dress to impress! Get rid of the flowing camouflage clothes and wear a smart, well fitted outfit. Gentlemen, tuck in your shirts in. Ladies, wear a fitted skirt with a waistband. Small sized fat clothes do nothing for body image dump that style and get something that flatters your new size. Enlist the help of friends you trust to find flattering clothes. Sometimes you have to force yourself to see your body as it is, a great fitting outfit will certainly do the trick. Extreme cases of body dysmorphia after gastric bypass weight loss may be treated with counseling and psycho-therapy. How to Protect Yourself When Using Online Dating Services

May 14th, 2008 by glorianemcmurray

By DeWayne Strickland Will you be the next one to find the love of your life online? 44% of adults are single according to the stats from Fox News. I have many friends who have successfully met over the internet, so it can be done. The other side of the coin is meeting a twistedindividual who will make your life a living nightmare. Let’s look at some vital tips to keep you safe and make the dating experience exciting. No one wants to end up as a headline in the newspaper, for never coming back from a date!I have talked to different women about what their dates were like. One said she noticed theguy was really nervous and could not stay focused on the conversation. Needless to say she did not have a second date with him. Oh, by the way, he was lawyer. Some important safety dating tips: When setting up the date over the phone or on the internet, do not let the person talk youinto picking you up! Keep control of the conversation and emphasize that you will meet themat a certain public place. You can have a friend drive you and you can have them pick you up.The key here is to have a well thought out game plan. Get to know a taxi driver and have him/her pick you up. By getting to know a nice taxi driver, you can make a safe get away ifyou need too. Make sure you meet in a public place. Whatever you do, do not meet the person in a strip club. Do not meet them at their apartment or house, because that would be a bad time to find the person is related to Jeffrey Dahmer or Ted Bundy. Tell a family member and a friend your going out on a date. Once your in the public place, youcan excuse yourself to the bathroom and call a friend to let them know how things are going. The best time to excuse yourself is during dinner, which will not look suspicious. Again, after enjoying some caviar and a one hundred dollar glass of wine, your instincts should be telling you if this person is a possible soul mate. After the date, call your friend immediately, so they will know your alive and kicking! If you have a cell phone, take it with you and make sure the battery is fully charged. Make sureyou have emergency numbers programmed in your cell phone, for quick access. It is not a badidea to have some pepper spray ready if needed. A flame-thrower is not a bad idea for first dates! This will keep things hot. If your food is under-cooked, the flame-thrower is an added bonus. Do not get drunk by pounding back 5 shots of Jack Daniels and putting yourself in a situationwhere you can not use sound judgment. You need the perceptual powers of your mind, soyou do not end up in a body bag somewhere. Not to mention, you might embarrass yourselfby getting up on the table and doing a strip tease. Getting drunk will weaken your defenses and make you susceptible to being controlled by your date. Yes, drinking may take care of yournervousness, but you will lose your instincts to make right decisions. Make sure you keep “ALL” personal items with you at all times! If you go to the bathroom, make sure your drink is consumed fully. You can simply ask for a new glass of water, when youget back from the bathroom. You don’t want some magical sleeping powder slipped into your drink. If a person gets a hold of your cell phone, then your really in trouble. Protect your personal information by keeping it with you! Do not go home with a person on the first date, unless the person is Lindsay Lohan or Richard Gere. Seriously! If you feel the other person is pushing you, then get up and leave immediately. The goal is to stay in a public place and pushy people are normally cons! A good con will try to talk you into anything! Watch out for the know it all and the pushy con artist! Slimming Solutions

By Nitin Jain Here are 5 solutions to slimming: 1. Set Mini-Goals: Try setting short-term or “mini” goals to help you achieve your goal of shedding the excess weight. Keep in mind that your mini goals should be specific and realistic, and they should have a measurable outcome. Setting your target in specific, measurable terms will increase your chances of accomplishing your long term goal of losing those unwanted pounds. In addition, remember to be realistic. If you’ve been consuming over 2000 calories, dont try cutting back to 1400 overnight. And if you haven’t exercised all year, dont aim to run three miles each day. 2. Budget your foods: If you can budget your money, you can budget your foods. Aim to have a specific amount of fruits, vegetables, starches, proteins and fats throughout the day, or for each meal. By limiting the amounts of each type of food, you will be able to stay within a calorie level that will enable you to loose weight. 3. Keep a food journal: Keeping a food journal helps you to avoid what is called “unconscious eating” - eating that leads to consumption of excess calories, beyond what you may have ever intended to consume. In fact, research actually shows that keeping a food journal will help you to loose weight! If emotional eating is a big sticking point for you, then journaling your moods, such as stress, boredom or anger can help you pinpoint problem areas, which in some cases may serve as triggers to overeating. Once you understand the problem, you can find a solution that does not involve opening the boxes of cookies or the jar of jellybeans. 4. Get moving: If you dont have time to get to the gym or to your aerobics class, be sure to engage in some physical activity at some point during the day. Believe it or not, even light physical activity can help you shed excess pounds and get into shape. Burning an extra 500 calories each day will help you to loose one pound per week. So, be sure to take advantage of the longer days with outside walks and outdoor activities. In addition to burning excess calories, getting out of the house to get your body moving will keep you away from the refrigerator. 5. Drink lots of water: Water will help to curb your appetite; it will also keep you hydrated during the hot months ahead, And here is an added bonus: Cold water helps you to burn calories! That’s right - the process of bringing cold water to your body’s own temperature involves expending energy, or calories. So carry a water bottle with you at all times, and aim for at least eight ounce glasses each day (or ten if you exercise). Promotional Products Don’t Work, Unless You Do This

May 4th, 2008 by glorianemcmurray

By Cindy Carrera Promoting your business is hard work! You have the aching head and feet to prove it. And if you’re like most business owners, you’re tired tired tired of purchasing promotional products that get little to no results. That’s because you haven’t done the most important thing first: plan. Yes, purchasing promotional products takes more than skimming through a mail order catalog or clicking to a promotion product site and placing an order. You need to put some time and thought in to what and how you plan to use the promotional product. You need to ask questions like what’s the basic idea of this promotion. What results do I want? What IS the promotion exactly? Who’s it for, youngsters or oldsters? Where do they live? If I received this promotional product, would I use it or toss it? Which is probably the single most important aspect of promotional items that marketers totally fail to consider. If they wouldn’t use that cheap pen or soda can themselves, why would they think their customers would use them? So never, ever underestimate your customer-even if that customer or person who will be using your promotional product is a child or teenager. In fact, you can pretty much count on the fact that unless you do some serious planning for your promotion, any promotional item or product you give away will be taken home and given to the kids. That’s why it’s essential to plan your promotional product purchases around a central idea, much like you would for an advertising campaign. And that means knowing if there’s a need for your promotional product. It isn’t likely that people are beating down your door to get a notepad or refrigerator magnet from you. If people don’t want it or can’t use it, a promotional product isn’t worth very much to them. The reverse is true too. If the promotional product doesn’t directly relate to your business and give people a reason to buy your product or use your services, then it isn’t going to do your bottom line any good at all. Worse, the money you spend on it is pretty much wasted. So pull together your top people and have a brainstorming session for good promotional product ideas. Find out what your customers really want-and more importantly, what you mean to accomplish with your promotional product. This ensures you’ll have dynamite promotional products that get you the results you want every time. Cindy Carrera has dominated the art of giving promotional gifts.
