Your Diet and Your Health - Staying On Track

Friday, March 14th, 2008

By L. Winslow Much of the problem with obesity in America stems from a lack of understanding and knowledge about what we eat. Our diets determine our energy levels, health and greatly effect our attitudes as well. Let’s discuss your diet, your exercising and your health for a moment. The Food We Eat is so vitally important and yet most people feed their pets better than themselves. Pet food is often specially calibrated and we generally do not feed our pets corn-chips and Code Red Mountain Dew for breakfast or buy them a Big Gulp soda for lunch. Additionally we do not supersize the meals we feed our pets, well most of us don’t, because it is wasteful and we do not want fat pets. Amazing when you think about it in this way isn’t it? If you want to stay healthy you need to watch your Diet, Nutrition and it will take some serious Extra effort. Consider many different diets, not just the fad diets and read the sample eating instructions and explanations. Do not simply take other testimonials for granted, does it make common sense? Ask yourself that, you are not stupid you should be able to tell. Develop a Winning Attitude for both your diet and exercise program and set goals. Work on getting to your Personal Best. This will help you to achieve your weight loss goals and exercise schedules, it takes commitment. And the rewards are great indeed. Think of the Advantages of Maintaining Weight such as your Health, Happiness and increased quality of life. L. Winslow is an Economic Advisor to the Online Think Tank, a Futurist and retired entreprenuer. Currently he is planning a bicycle ride across the US to raise money for charity and is sponsored by www.Calling-Plans.com and all the proceeds will go to various charities who sign up. Diet Preparation, Part II–Why Do We Need Sleep?

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

By Mark Fuqua The first article in this series stressed the importance of being prepared to begin any weight loss program. Without proper diet preparation, you will set yourself up for weight loss failure instead of success. This entire series deals with diet preparation as it relates to sleep and stress. If you are in a stressful period in your life, you probably aren’t getting enough sleep. Or the sleep you are getting isn’t the kind of sleep that is doing for the body what a good night’s sleep is supposed to do. If you aren’t getting good sleep, your body will suffer, particularly if you are trying to lose weight. The American Insomnia Assocition (AIA) states that insomnia is defined as trouble falling asleep or staying asleep. Different types of insomnia include: * Acute / Transient Insomnia Lasts from one night to a few weeks and is often caused by a temporary situation in a person’s life, such as an argument with a loved one, a brief medical illness, or jet lag. * Intermittent Insomnia Occurs on and off and most commonly in people who are temporarily experiencing: stress, environmental noise, extreme temperatures, changes in the surrounding environment, sleep/wake schedule problems such as those due to jet lag, or medication side effects. * Chronic insomnia Occurs on most nights and lasts a month or more (sometimes years). Chronic insomnia can be secondary to causes such as medical, physical or psychological conditions, sleep disorders (i.e., sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome, etc.), medications or other substances. Any of the above sound familiar? You see, the importance of sleep is emphasized by the effects of sleep deprivation. Coordination, judgment, reaction time and social functions will likely be harmed by lack of sleep. When you dont get enough sleep, several things can occur: * Impaired memory: Drowsiness during the day interferes with your brains ability to concentrate, learn and remember things. * Physical impairment: Simple tasks may prove more difficult to perform and complex tasks may become seemingly impossible. * Emotional response: You may become anxious, moody, and impatient, and notice increased difficulties during interaction and cooperation with others. Well, it’s not we who typically notice that we are difficult to get along with, but everyone around us sure notices it. * Particularly as it relates to successful weight loss, sleep helps the body restore and rejuvenate in many different ways including: * Memory, Learning and Social Processes Sleep enables the brain to encode new information and store it properly. REM sleep activates the parts of the brain that control learning. The parts of the brain that control emotions, decision-making and social interactions slow down dramatically during sleep, allowing optimal performance when awake. * Nervous System Some sleep experts suggest that neurons used during the day repair themselves during sleep. When we experience sleep deprivation, neurons become unable to perform effectively and the nervous system is impaired. * Immune System Similarly, sleep also enables the immune system to function effectively. During deep sleep, the bodys cells increase production while proteins break down at a slower rate. Without proper sleep, the immune system becomes weak and the body becomes more vulnerable to infection and disease. * Growth and Development Children need much more sleep than adults. Growth hormones are released during sleep, so sleep is vital to proper physical and mental development. The effects (positive and negative) of sleep for babies and children are magnified. Tired children are often cranky, fussy and become easily frustrated and difficult. It is often easier for adults to interpret and remedy the effects of tiredness in children than for them to listen to their bodys own signals for more rest. Well even if you aren’t a medical doctor or a member of the AIA, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure this one out does it? If you really want to lose the weight, you have to establish healthy sleep patterns and ways to deal with stress. Don’t forget to look for the next article in this series. In that article, Part III, I will give you tangible and easy ways for you to get the sleep you need and establish those healthy patterns. Until then. . . . Cheers! to your weight loss success! P.S. Hush-hush on Dora the Explorer Show

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

By Low Jeremy Lets talk about Dora the Explorer show Glancing at a group of children brought me to a level of curiosity. What are they talking about? Kids ranging from ages 3 to 5 years should not be talking that way. They all seem to be serious with their discussion. There is only a single idea that pops up in my mind; they are supposed to be dealing about Dora. Well, without any glimpse of mistake they are indeed discussing about Dora the Explorer show. Several versions of the show are available in CDs and DVDs. Not only because the children are getting more interested about the adventures of Dora but also parents believe that the kids will learn a lot from Doras show. A young girl named Dora who resides in a house with her Mama and Papi represents one of the Dora the Explorer shows. She is also fond of visiting her Abuela or grandmother. This is a well-loved version of the kids. You can find great benefits from watching Dora the Explorer show. It will teach your child with the basic Spanish vocabulary and phrases. In addition, it will also help them to enhance their mathematical, composition skills and physical coordination. Dora adds up to the confidence of the children. Through her exploration, she is teaching the children to become more observant and meticulous on the things around her. The attitude of generosity will also assist the children to know its importance by the practices done by Dora every time she helps a friend. How does Dora teach your kids with said skills in her show? Simple. For every episode of the show, Dora makes it sure, that she will solve a particular problem concerning one of those aspects like Spanish or mathematics. This will then teach your preschoolers with the basic of math and Spanish dialect. Typically, at the end of the show you will hear Dora and Boots singing a Spanish line that is translated into English vocabulary meaning, We did it. This is a way of showing to the people that they are able to fulfill their goal of entertaining people and solving problem in the end. Another common Spanish term that can be heard in the show is vamonos. This is uttered by Dora at the finale of the show as well. This means lets go. With a great pride, she will leave the viewers with a big smile on her face because she is certain that she was able to make the people happy for another episode. Together, by spending couple of minutes in watching Dora the Explorers show you and your child will enjoy the privilege of learning few Spanish dialects. Not only that, Dora is also popular for being bilingual and sometimes she can even speak up to 3 or 4 dialects. It is a major reason for the parents for choosing Dora as the center of their childs favorite cartoon character. This is perhaps the result of her visit to the different areas every time she has her adventure. Those are some of the unrevealed secrets of Dora the Explore adventure. If you want to be a member of Doras fans then better watch her show for you to get familiar about her journeys. You kids will not only enjoy the show but will learn a lot from it. Job Interview Tips

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

By Pat O’Sullivan A job interview is all about proving your qualifications and accomplishments to an employer through proper conversation skills. I have compiled a list of job interview tips that will help you to make that impression youve always dreamed of. These job interview tips are written in a general sense so they will benefit you no matter what position you are applying for. Many people have trouble with job interviews, but by applying these simple job interview tips, you will find yourself in less interview rooms and more golf courses with corporate bosses. - Know your position. Learn all you can about the job position you are applying for. - Arrive early; at least a few minutes before your scheduled appointment. - Know all the information in your resume. - Practice your introduction in the mirror. Preparedness is key. - Have a strong, firm handshake. An employer can learn a lot about you from your handshake. - Know yourself; be able to answer anything about yourself that the interviewer might ask you. - Appearance can sway an employers opinion. Dress appropriately and groom yourself properly. - Do not chew gum or any other candy. - Good posture. Strong back arc; no slouching. - Use proper body language. Act enthusiastic and sit slightly foreward in your chair. - Show potential. Provide a willingness to learn new skills. - Sound interesting. Talk with a firm tone of voice and try not to bore the interviewer with unrelated statements. - Put yourself in the interviewers perspective. Answer questions as they would like to hear from an employers view. - Have a clear sense of purpose for a given position. - Relax. Stay in a cool, calm state of mind. - When asked about prior jobs, do not act negative. Talk about what you learned there and how it has made you a better employee. - Respond to questions promptly, dont delay your answers. - Do not use slang. Slang can make you sound like you have a personality, but during a job interview, you want to stay as professional as possible. - Cooperate. Dont act annoyed or frustrated with any questions. Try to show interest in every category. - Try to get to know your interviewer. If you see a golf trophy in their office, ask them something relating to golf. Act as if you have known them your whole life. - Be attentive. This means listening carefully and understanding just what the interviewer is asking you before answering. - Be prepared. Remember to bring your Social Security card, drivers license, resume, references, and a transcript. If one of these is missing and it is required, they just might not ask you back. - Thank the interviewer and present them with a strong, firm handshake concluding the meeting. - Send a thank you note. You never know just how much a simple thank you letter can impact an employers decision on whether youre the right candidate for the job. Save Your Life From Pneumonia - Get A Nebulizer

Friday, March 7th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=John_Morris] John Morris Keep in mind that over time, your needs may change. Technology will also undoubtedly change, meaning that you should change your equipment of choice when newer and much more advanced versions of nebulizers come out on the market. Do not be mislead by size. Take into account the effectively as well as convenience of the equipment in relation to your lifestyle. Types of nebulizers: 1. Non Portable Nebulizer A large sized nebulizer for use in the home. These units are excellent for individuals who can use this at home and uses inhalers on the go and for small children who are still not capable of using a metered dose inhaler. Although they can be carrier when traveling, these units are not the best choice since they are bulky and needs a power source that require A/C exclusively. 2. Portable Nebulizer These units are small and handy, ideal for the individual who is always on the go, preferring to use a nebulizer than an inhaler. Battery operated, they can be used conveniently anywhere, anytime. 3. Standard Jet Nebulizer These units are the common type of nebulizer. Air pressure is used to turn medication into mist that can be inhaled through a mouthpiece or a mask. 4. Ultrasonic nebulizer Similar to the standard jet nebulizer, produces more particles that are of the same size compared to compressor nebulizers. If particles are uniform in size, it allows better aerosol penetration into the lungs. 5. Spacers For Metered Dose Inhalers This type increases the space between the mouth and the metered dose inhaler. Spacers aid in the inhalation of more medication into the lungs, avoiding depositing of medications on the back of the users throat. Spacers are recommended for all users of Metered dose inhalers and specially to individuals having coordination problems when breathing while at the same time depressing the inhaler gradually. If respiratory medication needs to be transported to the lungs directly, this can be done through the use of a nebulizer if prescribed by your doctor. Signs for this treatment include: - Tightness in chest - Increased or thick secretions - Pneumonia (congestion) - Atelectasis 6. Avoid Treatment If: - Autonomic hyperreflexia, or an increase in the individuals blood pressure - Increased pulse - When the individual has a history of harmful reactions when taking medications. 7. How to use a nebulizer? - Place the unit in a sturdy table. - Wash your hands well with soap and water. - Take off the cup portion of the nebulizer - Draw up the amount that is prescribed of the mediation in a syringe or an eye dropper. - Put the medication inside the medicine cup with normal saline of 3cc. - Close the cup to the nebulizer. - The oxygen tubing is to be attached on the nipple on the nebulizer and fasten the other end unto the oxygen tank or compressor. - Make sure that the patient is well seated and comfortable on a chair. - Turn the compressor or tank on, until the mist is seen that is coming out of the nebulizers mouthpiece. - Check the pulse - Placing the mouthpiece in the patients mouth (place it between the teeth, sealing it with the lips), slow deep breaths should be taken. Hold your breath for two seconds then breathe out. This permits that the medication is settled to the airways. - Continue the breathing process until such time that there is no more mist coming out of the mouthpiece or mask. - Turn the machine off, take off the tube and mouthpiece. - Clean tube and mouthpiece with warm soapy water water after each use. 8. Nebulizer Care: - Rinse the tube and the mouthpiece of the nebulizer after each treatment, with warm soapy water then rinse with warm water. Shake off excess water and place it on a clean towel to dry. - Disinfect the equipment every three days with the use of vinegar and water solution or any disinfecting spray that the supplier suggests. 9. Care of Compressor: - When not in use, the compressor should be covered with a clean cloth. To keep it clean, wipe it with a damp and clean cloth as needed. - The air compressor should never be put on the floor for whatever purpose. Be it for treatment or for storage. - Frequent examination of the air compressor’s filter is needed. Replace very dirty filters or clean it following the instruction manual. - Always keep an extra nebulizer cup, mask and mouthpiece handy. - Medicines must be stored in a cool, dry place. Check on them often. Throw away any medication that has changed in color. For more great nebulizer related articles and resources. Best Pets For Depression

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

By Justin Meyer While pocket pets can provide comfort, if you have the space and time for it, a dog or cat is most likely a better pet. These are pets who can actually learn and will grow more accustomed to you. Since they live longer, they will probably make better pets as well; you will not find them needing replacement as often. Dogs and cats can often become members of the family and that is a very good thing in this case. Having an animal that looks forward to you coming home, as a dog will can be very rewarding. Cats, unless they are particularly moody, will also be happy to see you when you come home (unless they are asleep). Kittens, along with most dogs, are particularly playful. They will be very happy to respond if you offer a game to play together, and will sometimes even approach you offering to play a game. It is, however, important that you remember that while you can talk to your pets, they cannot replace human companionship. They dont talk back. You can tell your dog or cat about your day or tell it how you are feeling but it wont be able to offer any words of advice. It wont be able to tell you that everything will be better, but it might lick your face. Sometimes, that is all that you need. Five Mortgage Marketing Concepts

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

By Jay Conners When working in the mortgage industry it is important to not only market your business and its products, it is important to market yourself as well. Here are a few mortgage marketing concepts to help you achieve that goal. 1. Body Language Speaks Volumes Your body language can speak volumes. Always smile when its appropriate, and speak clearly and slowly so that people will understand you. Eye contact is also very important when talking to people, it lets your client know that you are very confident in what you do, and that you believe in what you are saying. It is also important to be empathetic when appropriate as well, sometimes it is better to listen than to speak. Not everybody is in the ideal situation, so it is important that you understand where they are coming from, and exactly what they will need. 2. Using Tag Lines When your answer the phone, make sure you answer it in a professional manner and state your name. You can also add a tag line promoting a product or promotion. Here are a few examples. Hello, thank you for calling XYZ Mortgage Company, this is John Doe, how may I help you? Hello, thank you for calling XYZ Mortgage Company, this is John Doe, have you heard about our interest only loans? 3. Build Partnerships Partner up with a few Realtors in you area, this way you can attend their open houses, this is a great way to make contacts and make people aware of all the programs you have available. Remember to be prepared with plenty of business cards and literature. 4. Product Knowledge This is perhaps one of the most important marketing tools that you can posses. It is so important to have the ability to be able to speak off the cuff when asked about a particular product. It sends a clear message to the customer that you know what you are talking about, and the better you know the product the more confident you will be. Remember, your client is considering perhaps the biggest financial decision they will ever make, they need to trust you and believe in you! Take ten minutes out of every day to learn some of the benefits of the programs your company offers. Youll be surprised at how quickly you become an expert. 5. Show your appreciation Over the course of the loan process, it is fair to say that you have built a very good relationship with your customer, and like all relationships you want this one to last. Once the loan is closed, take the time to thank them by sending them something to let them know that you appreciate their business. It could be a thank you card, or a small care package. My suggestion would be to send them a small care package, preferably to their work place, this way, all of their fellow employees will want to know who sent it and why, this is a great way to get them talking about you, which could easily lead to lots of referrals. The best part of these marketing concepts is that they can be done on a shoe string budget or they will cost you nothing at all. The name of the game here is to keep yourself and your products in the public eye, so the next time someone needs a mortgage they will be calling on you. Mistakes to Avoid When Applying for a Loan

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Rebecca_Game]Rebecca Game Whether it’s a business loan or a personal loan, there are several common loan application mistakes that many businesses and individuals often make when applying for a loan. Avoiding loan application mistakes is your most valuable tool in being approved on a loan. The following common loan application mistakes can interfere with loan approval. 1. Being unaware of your credit rating. Before even attempting to get a loan, know where you stand. Request copies of your credit reports from Experian, Equifax, and Transunion, which are the three major credit reporting agencies. Your reports will show whether or not you’ve made your payments on time, or if you’ve defaulted on a loan, declared bankruptcy, or had any other financial problems. Additionally, it will show positive items, such as when you’ve paid your bills one time, or when you’ve paid a loan in full. Consistently paying your bills as scheduled shows that you’re worthy of a loan, and is very attractive to a lender. If your credit has undesirable listings, be aware of them, and be prepared to explain them to the lender. 2. Not understanding the loan terms before signing. Avoid the most common loan application mistake, and make sure that you read and fully understand everything involved with the loan before signing. Not only should you take the time to read the fine print in its entirety, but you should also ask questions about anything and everything that you don’t fully understand. This is a common loan mistake because individuals are often so anxious to get the loan that they fail to pay attention to the details. Don’t assume that the terms on this loan are the same as for “any other loan.” Know what you are signing before you sign. 3. Continuously searching for a lower interest rate. Interest rates change often. If you feel you’ve found a great rate, lock in before the rate increases to avoid this loan application mistake. People quite often make the loan application mistake of getting greedy, opting to see if rates will drop even farther before locking in on that rate. This loan application mistake of continuing to search for an even lower rate often works against you, rather than in your favor, especially if you have to wait longer to obtain the loan that you perhaps need immediately, or worse, if the interest rates actually increase rather than drop. 4. Not explaining the details for needing the loan. Yet another common loan application mistake of not fully explaining how the loan will be used. For example, if the loan is to be used for business purposes, explain the details of how you will use the money. Lenders want to see that you know exactly how you will use the money, and how this loan will meet your needs. 5. Make major loan application changes. Show the potential lender that you are stable and can make solid decisions. Don’t apply for a business loan, for instance, and submit a loan proposal, only to call the lender a while later and tell them that you’ve reconsidered and plan on using the money differently than stated in your paperwork. Make your decisions prior to this, and don’t make this loan application mistake of being unsure when you apply. Submit your proposal only in the event that you are 100 percent sure of your actions and will not change your mind. 6. Apply only to the most convenient lender. While heading to the bank in which you do business with is an obvious reaction, avoid the loan application mistake of not shopping around with other lenders. Check into obtaining a loan with a credit union, and if you’re searching for a small business loan, consider investigating programs offered through the Small Business Administration. This loan application mistake is also easily corrected by making just a few phone calls to lenders’ check rates and offers. 7. Not having current finances in order. Whether you’re in need of a personal loan or a business loan, don’t apply for a loan without proper financial documentation for the lender. This loan application mistake can either delay the loan process, or cause the lender to immediately turn you away. 8. Failing to have equity. Especially for a business loan or a home loan, having some equity, such as a down payment, can significantly increase your changes of securing a loan. While this loan application mistake is sometimes unavoidable, be aware that lenders are not as enthusiastic to offer loans to those without equity, especially loans for large amounts or for individuals with less than desirable credit scores. 9. Having no collateral. As with equity, no collateral gives no assurance to the lender that the loan will be repaid. Having collateral increase your chances of having the loan approved. Collateral can come in many forms such as automobiles, savings accounts, home equity, certificates of deposit, (CDs) and anything else that the lender considers to have value. 10. Not having a business plan if the loan is for business. Not having a business plan in place, or employing a poor business plan, is an inexcusable loan application mistake, yet can be easily corrected. If you’re starting a business, or wish to obtain funding to expand on an existing business, you need to demonstrate to the lender how the business will operate and make money. A business plan is essential for a lender to see your goals and see how you plan to reach those goals. 11. Not avoiding hidden loan costs. Avoid signing a loan that requires hidden costs. This loan application mistake might include fine print stating that annual fees, bank charges, closing costs, commissions, and balloon payments are required. Be informed, and don’t sign anything without being completely sure what it means. About The Author Rebecca Game is the founder of Digital Women , an online community for women in business.
